Welcome to the 17th edition of the Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF).

This year our Best in the Biz Tribute, a signature series of the Female Eye, celebrates Canadian writer, director and producer Mina Shum as FeFF Honorary Director 2019. It’s an honour and a privilege to have Mina join us from Vancouver on November 7 to celebrate her work.

We are thrilled to showcase so many talented women, most of whom are writers, directors and producers! We feature films from around the globe – including Iran, Greece, Armenia, India, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Italy, Ireland and the UK – and films from all across North America. It’s always such a pleasure to see directors return to FeFF with their new features, documentaries and shorts. It’s an honour to recognize the work of independent female filmmakers and screenwriters during this important shift for gender parity in our industry.

Starting in 2020, the festival will move to March to intersect with International Women’s Day (IDW) as part of our move into our new home at TIFF Bell Lightbox. Like so many festivals in Toronto, we’ve been nomadic for years, so we embrace the opportunity to have a stable venue hopefully for years to come.

I want to thank the FeFF board, our sponsors, our community partners and especially my team: Cara Gooding, Nikita Helewa, Cia Mellegers, Liz Best, Joanna Carito, Kelly Hargraves, Lesley Fraser, Tori Stern, Emma Stirling, Lin Fangyuan and Kreena Dasai.
We thank you for joining us and for having the determination, commitment and courage to create!

Upward and onward,
Leslie Ann Coles, FeFF Founder, Artistic & Executive Director
