DIRECTED BY KALLI PAAKSPUU

(2017, DOCUMENTARY, 5 MINS, CANADA, CP)

SYNOPSIS:

Alongside 20th-century visionaries like Bob Dylan and Bob Marley, Roman Toi advocated social justice and peaceful resistance through music. After Soviets occupied the Republic of Estonia and burned his home to ashes, Toi became a bridge between Estonians in exile and in his homeland. He composed choral works to the powerful poetry of Ärkamisaeg, the 19th-century Estonian Age of Awakening, becoming one of the charismatic personalities most active in reviving the Estonian Republic.
